Why I Call Cincinnati, “Home”

The word ‘home’ conjures up memories of a cozy place you grew up in. It’s a place you feel comfortable in and likely run into people you know, frequently.

While I grew up in Northeastern, Ohio, I consider Cincinnati my home. I moved here in 1990 when I began my dietetic internship (training to become a dietitian) at Good Samaritan Hospital.

I was lucky to land a job at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center and after working for seven years, completed my Masters’s degree at the University of Cincinnati. I taught nutrition at UC as an adjunct instructor for close to 20 years. Having lived here for over half of my life, this is where I feel the deepest roots.

My husband grew up here and my in-laws (mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, and sister-in-law) live here. My niece and nephew go to college nearby and I’ve built a small consulting business in Cincinnati.

I’ve been fortunate to work with both non-profit and for-profit businesses to offer cooking demos, presentations, and nutrition counseling. I have a network of physicians that refer patients to me. I’m so grateful for all of it.

While my husband is from here originally, I’m the one who runs into the most people I know when we’re out and about. This city is a small town at heart.

Recently, I had the opportunity to taco ‘bout why I love the Queen City so much. Below is a link to my interview on Redfin. Is Cincinnati, OH a Good Place to Live? Pros and Cons | Redfin

If you’ve never visited Cincinnati, give it a try. You may fall in love with it and make it your home like I did.
