Losing Ways
Have you lost 10, 20, 50+ pounds just to have it find you again? Research shows we are pretty good at losing weight but not so good at keeping it off. So how can you break the 'weight loss-regain' cycle? Why not learn from those that have been successful - members of the National Weight Control Registry, a database of 4000 adults who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for more than a year. They have identified the following seven strategies as being the key to their success:
- Consistently eat a low calorie, low fat diet (1300 - 1700 calories, 25% from fat)
- Regularly eat 4 - 5 times a day and eat a balanced daily diet
- Always eat breakfast
- Regular physical activity (60 - 90 minutes each day)
- Weigh-in daily or at least weekly
- Limit television viewing to less than 10 hours a week
- Take corrective action as soon as a small amount of weight re-gain occurs
Your weight loss isn't the end – it's the beginning of a healthy new lifestyle. Maintaining your weight loss requires diligence and determination. It can feel like it is harder work than your weight loss but you won't be alone – you can join the 4000 members of the National Weight Control Registry..
