Lisa Cicciarello Andrews, MEd, RD, LD
CEO, Sound Bites Nutrtion
My friends affectionately call me “Nutrigirl”. Being Italian, food has always been central in my life. My mom struggled with her weight and my dad dealt with complications of diabetes. I dieted too much as a teenager when I never needed to. I decided a career in nutrition might help me understand the connection between food and health more clearly. I will be the first to admit- I enjoy good food! I am not an extremist. I believe in balance, not restriction. I like chocolate and cheese just like you. I work with adults (18 and up) with chronic medical issues such as weight management, diabetes and prediabetes, cardiovascular health, women’s health, autoimmune diseases, cancer prevention/management and gastrointestinal issues.
My career began in 1990 as a clinical dietitian at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. I became well-versed in illness, but over the years my focus shifted to wellness. To broaden my skill set, I picked up side jobs and gained experience writing, presenting and providing cooking demos through my work at the Nutrition Council of Cincinnati. After receiving my Masters at UC in 1998, I became an adjunct instructor and have taught undergraduate, graduate and nursing students for almost 20 years. I launched Sound Bites Nutrition in 2008 to empower individuals and groups to make “sound bites” to better health. See below for a list of companies I’ve worked with
Nutrigirl’s work is never done! I serve as a nutrition expert for Shapefit.com, NetWellness.org, 50+fit.com and Dietitiancentral.com. I also write for Food and Health Communications and Stone Soup- the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Food & Nutrition online food blog. I enjoy cooking and developing recipes and always trying new, nutritious food. In 2017, I launched a line of food pun tee shirts that you can find in a few stores around Cincinnati and online here: https://soundbitesnutrition.com/shop-2
As for the “alphabet soup” after my name (pun intended), I received my Bachelor’s in Nutrition from Youngstown State University and completed my dietetic internship at Good Samaritan Hospital where I received the Sister Romuald Award. RD stands for Registered Dietitian and LD means I am licensed in Ohio (see the FAQ section) www.soundbitesnutrition.com/faqs . In 2017, I won the Recognized Dietitian of the Year for Ohio and 2002 received the Ohio Dietetic Association Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award. I have a passion for food insecurity and won a $10,000 People’s Liberty Grant award for my project People’s Pantry Cincy: facebook.com/peoplespantrycincy/
