F.A.Q.

  • What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Great question! A Registered Dietitian is the “Real Deal” when it comes to nutrition experts. RDs have obtained a Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in nutrition or dietetics. Upon completion of required coursework from an accredited university, he or she has completed a 6-12 month supervised dietetic internship and has passed a rigorous registration exam. A Registered Dietitian must obtain 15 hours of approved continuing education hours annually to maintain the credentials “RD”. I am registered and licensed to practice in Ohio.

A nutritionist may or may not be a Registered Dietitian, but is typically an individual that has an interest in nutrition. He or she may or may not have a degree in nutrition, and has not obtained the credentials RD. He or she is not state licensed to practice in the field of nutrition, and is not legally supposed to provide medical nutrition or diet therapy or counseling to individuals or groups. Dietitians may call themselves nutritionists, but nutritionists may not call themselves dietitians. When hiring a nutrition professional- ask about their credentials!

  • Where do you meet your clients?

I closed my regular office since the pandemic and am seeing clients online only through a HIPPA-compliant platform. I do provide presentations virtually or in-person, including cooking demos, lunch and learns, and webinars.

We may also “meat” in a grocery store to help you shop and plan your meals.

  • Do you take health insurance?

I do not take insurance but do accept HSA or flex spending cards for payment. My prices are competitive. A one-hour initial consult is $200.00, which includes a one-hour online visit, nutrition handouts and education materials, and a progress note sent to your healthcare provider.

I also offer packages of 3, 6, and 9 visits as well as grocery store tours and monthly coaching sessions by phone or email.

  • What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept HSA or flex spending cards, Venmo, PayPal, or traditional check may also be used.

Payment is due at the time of service. Cancellation of an appointment is expected prior to 24 hours or you will be charged for 100% of the visit.

A no-show is also charged for a full visit. Late cancellations due to illness or emergency will be charged $30.00

  • How big are your group classes?

This depends on the group. I prefer a minimum group size of at least 5-10 people for wellness, disease management or weight loss classes.

If I’m providing an employee program at your worksite (such as lunch and learn), the group may be as small or large as you like!

My limit is 35 people for cooking demonstrations unless otherwise specified. I will accommodate your group the best I can.

  • Do you offer services for children?

Most of my experience is with adults, and therefore I do not work with children. I am happy to refer clients to colleagues that work in pediatrics.

  • How long is a counseling session?

An individual session typically lasts 45-60 minutes. Handouts will be prepared for you after your meeting to get you started on your nutrition and health goals. I review your diet with you at the first visit to focus on your health goals.

  • Do you work with personal trainers?

Yes! I work with a few local personal trainers and can refer you to them if requested.

  • Do you sell supplements or other products?

No, I do not and never will. While I may recommend a vitamin or mineral supplement based on diet, health goals and/or medical history, I do not work with or endorse any specific brand of supplements. I suggest you always check with your doctor or pharmacist prior to trying (or buying) supplements. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA! I find this to be a conflict of interest for any health professional to sell supplements.

I DO sell food pun gifts! I love that my tees and other items start a conversation about food. Part of the proceeds goes towards programs that fight food insecurity. Please take a peak at my page.
