Meet Lisa Andrews

aka Nutrigirl

Owner of Sound Bites Nutrition

Helping you build a healthier relationship with food — without restriction.

How It All Got Started

I grew up surrounded by incredible Italian food — and diet culture. With my mother constantly dieting & my father restricting food due to diabetes, I watched my family struggle to navigate food and health. This sparked my early interest in nutrition.

I knew I wanted to help people find a better way — one that supports both health and enjoyment.

Experience & Recognition

With over three decades of experience in nutrition, Lisa brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, education, and real-world application to her work.

Experience

After completing her degree in 1990, Lisa served as a Clinical Dietitian at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center and has spent over 30 years educating, speaking, and guiding individuals toward better health through nutrition.

She was also an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Cincinnati, where she shared her knowledge and passion for nutrition with future professionals.

In 2008, Lisa founded Sound Bites Nutrition to continue helping clients build sustainable, realistic approaches to eating well.

Awards & Recognition

Lisa’s work has been recognized at both the state and community level for her impact in nutrition, education, and advocacy.

  • Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Presidents’ Award (2024)

  • Ohio Recognized Dietitian of the Year (2017)

  • Arthritis Foundation Adult Honoree (2016)

  • People’s Liberty Grantee (2016)

  • Ohio Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (2002)

After years of experience Lisa has developed a unique view of nutrition. Food should support your health — but it should also be something you enjoy.

Lisa enjoys what she calls the “3 C’s” Coffee, Chocolate & Cheese. She believes in a balanced, realistic approach to eating that fits into your everyday life. That means no extreme restrictions, no “all-or-nothing” thinking, and no guilt around the foods you love.

Her goal is to help you build sustainable habits, feel confident in your choices, and develop a healthier relationship with food that lasts long-term.

Lisa’s Approach to Nutrition

Freelance Writer & Author

Lisa is a passionate writer, recipe developer, and communicator who brings nutrition to life through both words and food. A self-proclaimed “word neRD,” she enjoys crafting recipes just as much as she enjoys crafting meaningful, accessible content that helps people better understand their health. She has written for respected platforms including Food and Health Communications, Train With Kickoff, and Today’s Dietitian, where she shares practical, evidence-based insights in a relatable way.

As an author, Lisa has published multiple cookbooks focused on improving health through nutrition. Her first book, The Healing Gout Cookbook (2020), was inspired by her own experience living with rheumatoid arthritis. She has also written cookbooks focused on thyroid disease and heart health, continuing her mission to make nutrition approachable, realistic, and impactful for those managing chronic conditions.

Media & Brand Experience

As Seen on FOX-19, WCPO, Channel 12 & Cincy Lifestyle

Lisa’s approachable, no-nonsense style has made her a go-to expert for media and brand partnerships. She has been featured on regional outlets including WCPO (Channel 9), where she shares practical nutrition advice that people can actually use in their daily lives.

She has also worked with well-known food and wellness brands, helping bring credible, science-backed nutrition into real-world conversations. Whether she’s on camera, writing, or collaborating behind the scenes, Lisa focuses on making nutrition affordable, understandable, and enjoyable.

Lisa partners with leading food and wellness brands including KIND Snacks, Applegate, and BODYARMOR to translate nutrition science into clear, engaging messaging that resonates with everyday audiences. Through media, content, and on-camera work, she helps brands build trust, strengthen credibility, and influence healthier choices.

Lisa’s Passion Project: Lettuce Beet Hunger

What started as a creative idea has grown into a meaningful initiative focused on fighting food insecurity in the Cincinnati community.

Through her PUN Shop, Lisa created a line of food pun-inspired products designed to bring awareness to an important cause—while giving back with every purchase. A portion of proceeds supports local organizations providing meals, resources, and support to those in need.

In 2016, Lisa expanded this mission by founding People’s Pantry Cincy, helping bring food access directly into underserved neighborhoods. What began as one pantry has grown into a network supporting communities across the city.

For Lisa, this work is more than a project—it’s a way to combine creativity, compassion, and nutrition to make a lasting impact.

Meet Snickers

aka The Real Boss of the Kitchen

Snickers is more than just a pet—she’s a constant kitchen companion and unofficial taste-tester. You’ll often find her nearby while Lisa is cooking, eagerly observing (and occasionally circling underfoot) in hopes of sampling something new. Despite her picky palate, Snickers has a surprising fondness for kale and leafy greens—and a well-earned reputation for getting into places she shouldn’t, including Mother’s Day flowers and houseplants. Around here, if the bowl is empty, it’s safe to assume it’s #SnickerApproved.

Snickers is also part of the #catRDay community—a playful nod to “caturday” created within a network of registered dietitians who share a love of both nutrition and their feline companions. Each Saturday, RDs across the country post and connect through photos of their cats, adding a little joy (and a lot of personality) to the profession. It’s a lighthearted way to build community, spark connection, and bring a little fun into the world of health and wellness.
