CEO, Sound Bites Nutrition

How did I get here? My friends call me Nutrigirl. I grew up enjoying great Italian food with a mom that was constantly dieting and a dad with diabetes. I recovered from an eating disorder in high school and believed a career in nutrition would allow me to help people with their diet and disease issues.

What do you like to eat? I’ll be the first to admit- I enjoy eating and believe in balance, not restriction. I love coffee, chocolate and cheese like most people. I enjoy providing cooking demos and other presentations on how to make food nutritious and delicious.

My career began in 1990 as a clinical dietitian at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. I became well-versed in illness, but over the years my focus shifted to wellness. I picked up side jobs and gained experience writing, presenting and providing cooking demos through my work at the Nutrition Council of Cincinnati.

After receiving my Master’s degree at the University of Cincinnati, I became an adjunct instructor and have taught undergraduate, graduate and nursing students for almost 20 years. I launched Sound Bites Nutrition in 2008 to focus my ‘thyme’ on health promotion.

I’m a word neRD. I love cooking, developing recipes and writing. I write for Food and Health Communications, Dietitian Pros and Today’s Dietitian. I have rheumatoid arthritis and wrote my first cookbook this year The Healing Gout Cookbook. https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Gout-Cookbook-Anti-Inflammatory-Recipes-ebook/dp/B0857KD9Y3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=the+healing+gout+cookbook&qid=1587581381&s=digital-text&sr=1-3

I started a line of food pun products called Lettuce Beet Hunger. These are available in small markets in Cincinnati and online. Part of proceeds go towards helping those with food insecurity. They are simple, silly and make great gifts. Check out my shop: https://soundbitesnutrition.com/shop

I’ve done work as a Brand Spokesperson where I combine my health and nutrition knowledge with key product messages to help improve sales and increase product loyalty. You may have seen me on Fox 19 and other networks in Cincinnati. I’ve collaborated with KIND Snacks, Applegate Meats, Litehouse Foods, Libby’s Vegetables, BODYARMOR, Keystone Meats, Mazola, Natural Delights Dates and several other food brands.

I’m passionate about food insecurity and designed a program called People’s Pantry Cincy through a People’s Liberty Grant in 2016. You can read more here: facebook.com/peoplespantrycincy/

My awards include the Ohio Recognized Dietitian of the Year (2017), Arthritis Foundation Adult Honoree (2016) and Ohio Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (2002).

Lisa Andrews helped our company administer a “Biggest Loser” weight loss competition. Several employees lost almost 20% of their body weight! She provided healthy recipes, coupons, and met with employees to discuss their individual needs. Lisa’s wealth of nutrition knowledge helped many of our employees change their lifestyle and improve their overall health. We loved working with her and would definitely make use of her expertise in the future!

– Nancy Myles, PHR, SHRM-CP-Human Resource Manager, Kadant Black Clawson

Lisa Andrews spoke at our manufacturing facility several times as part of our Wellness Program. Lisa was able to present nutrition in an easy to understand manner and gave great tips for easily packing a nutritious lunch and getting through the holidays without going overboard. Our employees greatly enjoyed Lisa’s presentations.

– Mary Kay Swadener, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
Human Resource Manager

Lisa was wonderful to work with! She was thoughtful in her approach and shared her expertise around nutrition in an accessible and approachable way. She helped us create the curriculum and recipes for a pilot program, Culinary Camp. Her work strengthened the program and inspired kids to learn about cooking and make healthier choices.

– Michelle Stawicki, Design Impact, Social Innovation Specialist

I had Lisa speak to a group of company president’s and she kept it light while giving us great information. With so many strategies out there for diet and nutrition, she was able to make it concise and clear. She was well prepared for all of our Q&A. I recommend Lisa for your group or company.
