Drink Wholesome Protein-Packed Rolled Oats with Turmeric

Yes, I realize it’s May. But some people still enjoy rolled oats for breakfast! What’s not to love? Whole grains, including rolled oats, may reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. In addition, their fiber content helps you feel fuller longer. Winning!

Did you know you can cook old-fashioned oats in your microwave? Why babysit those oats on the stove for 20 minutes when you can pop them in the microwave for 2 minutes? Plain rolled oats have less sugar, sodium, and other ingredients than those out-of-date instant oats. Trust me on this one.

Recently, I received a product sample called Drink Wholesome. The beauty of “drink” wholesome is that you don’t just have to drink it. Drink Wholesome was created for people with sensitive stomachs. The ingredients in their vegan protein powder are super simple: almonds. That’s it. No artificial colors, flavors, or additives.

Since I’m a gal who likes to sink her teeth into food (versus drinking my calories), I thought I’d give Drink Wholesome a try in my morning oats. If you’re wondering about the crazy orange color, it’s because I add turmeric to my oats.

Turmeric is a bright yellow spice that’s frequently used in Indian food. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and has been found to aid in reducing pain from osteoarthritis. It may also play a role in reducing the risk of cancer and other conditions.

But back to the protein powder! Drink Wholesome contains 15 grams of protein in 4 Tbsp. of powder. It’s low in fat, calories, and carbs but provides 6 grams of fiber per serving.

In addition, it’s a good source of vitamin D, providing a whopping 39% of the Daily Value for this important nutrition. It contains zero sodium and 15% of the Daily Value for calcium. Not. Too. Shabby!

The other thing I liked about this protein powder is its versatility. The powder is unflavored, so it can be added to smoothies, yogurt, oats, or other recipes.

As this product contains almonds, it can’t be used (obviously) for those with nut allergies.

Below is my recipe:

1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

2 Tbsp. Drink Wholesome unflavored vegan protein powder

1/2 cup tap water + 1 Tbsp.

1/2 tsp. turmeric powder

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 Tbsp. chopped walnuts

1 tsp. raisins

Honey (optional)

Directions:

Combine the rolled oats, Drink Wholesome protein powder, tap water, turmeric, cinnamon, and raisins in a bowl. Stir together.

Cover your bowl with a tight-fitting lid. Microwave the oats for 2 minutes.

Drizzle with honey if desired.
